Cable television network Nickelodeon, in partnership with the NEA Foundation, has announced the opening of this year’s The Big Help Grants program application period. The Big Help rewards active K-8 U.S. public school teachers and support professionals with awards of up to $5,000 for materials, equipment, supplies, technology, transportation, or scholars-in-residence towards the implementation of techniques and approaches to environmental awareness, active community involvement, health and wellness, and the right of students to a quality public education. Funding is intended to encourage and help students “develop a sense of global awareness”. You can learn more and acquire application materials at the NEA Foundation’s webpage. Applications are due October 15.
Insurance corporation Liberty Mutual’s philanthropic program, Responsible Sports, is also accepting applications for its Community Grant program. Eligible entities must register their youth sports association first, allowing administrators, supporters, coaches, and parents to take part in Responsible Sports Parenting and/or Coaching coursework, followed by short quiz. Passed quizzes grant certifications, which are then credited to the favored youth sports league of the coach and/or parent, and 15 such organizations (5 each for groups under 100 players, groups over 100 players, and schools/educational programs) with the most certifications to their credit will be awarded grants of up to $2,500 for defraying operations costs. For-profit and adult sports organizations for individuals aged 18 and older are not eligible. Complete details can be found at the Responsible Sports website. The deadline is November 30.
Good luck!
